"In order to know the word of God you must know its culture, language, history, idioms, etc. 
I have noticed that there are many in the church who are unable to articulate the Gospel effectively apart from cliche. This is because we are looking at the Gospel through the experience of our own culture not the culture of Jesus Himself. We need to know the prophesies and holidays which spoke of Jesus and His mission before He came. This will give us needed insight to His life, mission and teachings.
